OMG WHAT THE HUNGER GAMES!?

Yup. I am obsessed. More obsessed than some people were when Twilight was becoming popular. I literally read the entire trilogy in less than a week (six days to be exact, but I could have finished it in five if I wasn't tired from driving between LA and San Diego). Author Suzanne Collins is brilliant for writing such an "epic" trilogy and I loved every single book. I have to be honest, but I didn't start reading the books until after I heard about the movie and people talking about it.

I one day was about to drive home to San Diego, picked up my nook, and randomly decided to buy the first book, The Hunger Games. I finished the book, cover to cover, in two days then immediately downloaded Catching Fire. Then Mockingjay. Every page turn—or finger swipe...technology...—I fell deeper in love with the story and was so sad to finish the last page of Mockingjay. So upon completion, I decided to check out the cast list and compare who I thought would be perfect and who the director chose.

Ugh, was I in for some disappointment.

Katniss Everdeen. How do I begin to explain this fiery mockingjay. She's fierce, unstable, but very selfish in the same way that she's selfless under the circumstances she's thrown in. In the movie, she'll be played by Jennifer Lawrence.

I'm not in love with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen because of her role in X-Men First Class. But, she does look better as a skinnier brunette—as opposed to Raven/Mystique. While reading the trilogy, I always thought of Annie Clark (Fiona, from Degrassi circa 2010ish). It might be because of her unstable character in Degrassi (after all, who wasn't), but I loved her pale skin and brown hair. She also seemed a little more suitable because really, she didn't come from being blonde.

I also imagined a lot of the characters in The Hungers Games to not be so...gorgeous. Kind of like in Twilight. Not everyone is gorgeous. Sorta. I expected everyone (except those from the Capitol, of course) to be more ordinary looking, like in Twilight. Like Liam Hemsworth as Gale? I loved Gale in The Hunger Games and thought of him to be attractive, but not gorgeous. I can't think of anyone to play a better Gale, but until then, I'm not satisfied. He just doesn't look protective or serious or like a hunter that Gale is supposed to be. He's too pretty to be Gale—kind of what I almost though Finnick was going to look like.

At first, I really almost despised Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. Peeta, the bakers son who never even became significant in Katniss' life until the tribute ceremony, the one who continued to love Katniss no matter how corrupt things became. All of the past contexts of Hutcherson's past productions (i.e., Little Manhattan) made me wish Peeta was played by a different actor...until I ran into some of the Hunger Games tumblrs. *looking for a picture of Josh Hutcherson...SWOON* unffffffffffffffffff

Oh Josh. I die.

As far as President Snow, I always pictured him as Michael Sheen because of his character in Twilight, Aro, the leader of the Volturi. His dark hair mixed with his pale white skin and blood lust translated to the juxtaposition of President Snow's white rose and bloody lips seemed on point. Not Donald Sutherland. He seriously looks like he came out of the wild west and is someone's grandfather. He looks a tad bit spiteful, but not as numbingly malicious as Sheen in Twilight. I also didn't expect President Snow to be so old. Maybe I missed that detail...

Finally, Cinna. I loved him in The Hunger Games but was a little disheartened to find out that he was going to be portrayed by Lenny Kravitz. Watching the trailer, I just didn't see the connection between him and Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss). If I could have my way, I totally would have called Stanley Tucci and made him Cinna immediately. Throughout the entire trilogy, I pictured Cinna as Tucci, not as fucking Caesar Flickerman, damnit! Based on his character in The Devil Wears Prada, I thought Tucci was perfect for Cinna. His similar character in Julie & Julie was so comforting to mirror as Cinna in The Hunger Games.

I'm a little disappointed to say the least, but maybe Lenny Kravitz will prove me otherwise.

Haymitch Abernathy played by Woody Harrelson is perfect. Based on the trailer, he didn't look scruffy enough, but it is what it is.

The other actors for the rest of the characters I'm satisfied with. Now, I'm just waiting for the day The Hunger Games is released in theaters. I will probably buy a mockingjay pin (via eBay) or a Hunger Games t-shirt (via Hot Topic), but I'm definitely looking for the pin.

Until then, I'll either reread the series or stay as far away from the books as possibly to heighten my anticipation. Either way, I'll be attending the opening night with a pack of tissues.

May the odds be ever in your favor,
