Growth

I know it's been a while since I've updated, but two semi-big milestones have crossed my path in life! And it's crazy, because all of it happened in the same 24 hours. Actually, I have to be honest, this weekend has been pretty great to me, even on Friday. I'll recap chronologically...

Despite the drama, I don't know why, but as I was driving home on Friday with my sister, I felt a whole ton relieved and just totally chill. My siblings and I watched HP7—uh, well, my brother and I, at least...Kayla slept upstairs haha. I ended up watching until probably halfway and decided to take a nap. Like I said, super relaxed at my own discretion! This past week—or month, really—has been hectic, but I'm telling you, that past Friday I just felt so incredibly at ease.

Saturday, went about my typical Sabbath morning. Woke up, got ready, and went to church. I have to say, I haven't been totally comfortable with attending Sabbath School with the rest of the youth. I've been feeling quite distant, to say the least. Nonetheless, I helped Kayla greet people in the foyer which happened to be quite gratifying. I don't know what it is about just saying, "happy sabbath," with a smile and a shake of a hand or a hug, but the welcomeness of my church is amazing and soothing. I'm definitely going to miss FilAm when I move out!

After service, my family and I went about our shenanigans. We went home and changed. Thinking that we were going to Souplantation, I packed my mini "speedy"esque purse with ziplocs and my Souplantation coupons. I kid you not. My dad ended up choosing this small looking restaurant in Downtown San Diego, kinda near the Gaslamp and Horton Plaza, called Rei de Gado: the Brazilian Steakhouse. On the way to the restaurant, the whole time I was thinking, "damn. I'm feelin' a little nauseous and I have a slight headache coming on. I hella don't think my stomach can handle this today" with tons of reservations and wishes that we had gone to Souplantation.

When we walked inside, I saw there was a small buffet (which happened to be complete with seemed like antipastos—like mozzarella/basil/tomato, balsamic vinaigrette marinated eggplant, sundried tomatoes and seaweed, and the like—as well as the typical starches—steamed white rice, rice pilaf, red skin potatoes, scalloped potatoes, creamed based pasta with tomatoes, basil and mushrooms, and stroganoff—and even a few soups that I didn't get around to. Anyway, as we were seated, we were given the directions to use this "marker" type of thing with a red end and green end to signify a red light/green light type of thing. It was really interesting, because at this restaurant, the meat is served straight from the kitchen with gorgeous, burley Brazilian men cutting strips from the different types of meat at your tableside. Oh, and did I mention, they were serving 13 different types of meat for lunch? Yes, I just said 13.

As soon as our waitress left, I filled my plate with rice, veggies, some red skin potatoes (because they are the most beneficial potatoes you can eat), and a few pieces of vinaigrette marinated eggplant, walked back to my seat and picked up the Worcestershire sauce for my meat. I swear to you, the rest was a blur. All I remember was I had sirloin, top sirloin, tenderloin, rib, cheese and chicken, and garlic encrusted sirloin of the thirteen different prepared meats (since I don't eat pork), sweet strawberries to cleanse my palette, and taking pictures with Bruno and Gabriel. (heehee)

After, we went to Urban Outfitters (which I believe is on Fifth and G)—where I found the perfect graduation dress—and then to Horton Plaza to attempt and find a pair of heels to match. With no luck, we went home to end up going to Otay Ranch Town Center and scope of DSW and Aldo. I ended up buying great pair of heels and a matching oversized clutch! I was also able to get a $39 discount because I returned a gifted pair of heels that didn't fit me. Afterwards, we went to church to set up for the grad party the day after.

Sunday after was my joint pre-grad party that I was a part of with the other graduating high school seniors from my church. I wasn't too stoked for it, but it was really fun getting ready and pretty dolled up with my sister!
Makeup: some dark brown eyeshadow to fill my eyebrows, highlighter on my brow bone, Mac fluidline to line my upper lashline, a bit of highlighter at the corners of my eyes, mascara, and bronzer on my cheekbones.

Outfit: I wore a white empire waisted, A-line Heritage 1981 dress (which reached mid-knee) with a cropped purple cardigan, brown almond-shaped F21 heels, a vintage ring my grandma gave me, and a nude crocheted purse.

Hair: dutch braids around my head and the nape of my neck, and a side braided bun. :)
I wasn't really all that excited for the party, but it was really more beneficial for myself and my family rather than the fact that it was a "joint" party. I really connected with my parents, especially with my dad through my tribute. I ended up choking up and crying towards the end (which is crazy, because I always try to constantly maintain my composure) but was extremely sentimental. Unfortunately, I had to leave RIGHT before we could eat which was such a horrible moment...

Nonetheless, my sister and I went to the venue for PAPIOCA: PAPIA Banquet 2010-2011 around 4:10pm. The place was already beautifully set up, but my sister and I ended up going home to pick up a few extra things and a carne asada burrito from Graciela's (on Paradise Valley Road). After we settled back down and had things in hand at the venue, my sister and I dipped to the bathroom and got ready. To say the least, the banquet was a success! We had an amazing venue on a golf course, delicious food (buffet style with fresh fruit, warm rolls of bread, salad, rice pilaf, lemon cream chicken, and roasted beef—NOMZ!), great performances, and ended the night with a fun dance.

Just to have been able to witness and experience these moments just helps me realize that I'm almost done with high school and that I'm moving on to bigger and better things. It's still hard to believe that I'm going to be graduating in 13 days and counting! I also can't wait for graduation day, because I finally get to see Jon again...it'll be an entire year since I haven't seen him this Wednesday...

Anyway, here are some pictures and deets of my makeup and outfit from the banquet! :)
Makeup: left my eyebrows the same, used Benefit's smokey eye kit (came with two eye shadows, eyebrow and tear duct highlighter, and eyeliner/eye brow fill that I don't use), same bronzer, and M.A.C.'s matte Ruby Woo.

Outfit: Forever 21 dress, black velvet-esque pumps, and carried my nude crocheted bag around too.

Hair: same as earlier!
Next up: prom this Friday and graduation on 6/13!! :)
